Overview
A Shopify bundle can show more stock than you expect when the storefront or bundle app counts inventory differently from the locations that can actually fulfil the order. Start by comparing the component's Available quantity, location eligibility and shipping coverage instead of changing the bundle quantity. Biscuits Bundle Builder keeps stock on the component products and follows Shopify's contextual availability, so the bundle, components and delivery settings need to agree. This guide gives you a controlled way to find the mismatch before it causes overselling.

Why is a Shopify bundle app counting stock from the wrong location?
The number can be wrong when an app totals inventory across locations without applying the same fulfilment context Shopify uses for the shopper. Another common mistake is comparing On hand inventory with Available inventory. On hand can include units that are committed to orders or marked unavailable, while Available means units that can currently be sold.
Why can a bundle show 13 units when only 10 are sellable?
Consider a merchant with 10 sellable units in an online fulfilment location and another three units recorded at an informational location. If a bundle calculation simply adds both location quantities, it might display 13 even though only 10 should supply the sale. A merchant reported this pattern in a Shopify troubleshooting question; it is evidence that the problem occurs, not proof that every app calculates inventory this way.
Is the problem caused by Shopify settings or the bundle app?
It can be either, so test both layers. Shopify controls location, fulfilment, shipping and routing eligibility. A bundle app can also have its own inventory rules, so a correct Shopify total does not prove that the app is using the same sellable context.
How does Shopify decide which location inventory can be sold?
Shopify connects inventory with fulfilment. A unit is sellable to an online shopper only when it is stocked at a location that serves the shopper's shipping zone.
What is fulfillable inventory?
Fulfillable inventory is inventory held at locations that can ship to the customer's destination. Shopify states that checkout requires stock at a location that delivers to the shopper's shipping zone. Storefront visibility can be configured differently on some older stores, so a product being visible does not necessarily mean it can be purchased for that address.
Also check the inventory state. Available inventory excludes committed, unavailable and incoming units. If a location is not active for a variant, Shopify can still show On hand there while omitting an Available quantity. That distinction is important when an informational warehouse record is present.
What changes when online fulfillment is disabled for a location?
Shopify's location settings let you turn off the option that makes a location's inventory available to fulfil online orders. That changes Shopify's fulfilment eligibility for the location. It does not prove that every third-party app will stop including the location in a custom inventory calculation, so repeat the storefront and checkout tests after changing it.
How does Biscuits handle bundle inventory across Shopify locations?
Biscuits uses component products as the inventory source. Its documentation describes a bundle Locations card and contextual availability across components, markets and shipping. It does not document a separate selector that forces calculation from one arbitrary location.
Where is inventory tracked for a Biscuits bundle?
Inventory is tracked on the individual component products, not on the parent bundle product. Biscuits automatically sets the parent to not tracked, and the purchased components appear as individual order lines with their SKUs and quantities. Changing the parent to tracked inventory can therefore create a second, misleading stock constraint.
Which bundle, component and shipping settings must agree?
Check the bundle's Locations card, each required component's location assignment and Available quantity, the customer's market or catalog, and the relevant shipping profile. Biscuits documents that required components inherit contextual availability: if one required component cannot be supplied to that visitor, the bundle can be unavailable even when another warehouse holds stock.
For the broader model, see how Shopify bundle apps work with multi-location inventory. Keep this troubleshooting task narrower: you are looking for the location that incorrectly contributes to, or blocks, one expected quantity.
How do you stop a bundle app counting the wrong inventory location?
Work from the component outward. Record the expected quantity, then check Shopify's inventory and fulfilment rules before changing app settings or stock.
Check whether the app can scope inventory by location
Read the app's current location documentation and identify whether it offers a location selector, follows Shopify's contextual availability or totals inventory another way. In Biscuits, enable the relevant locations on the bundle and validate the component availability for the shopper's context. Do not interpret that Locations card as a promise that one selected warehouse becomes the only inventory source unless current documentation or a controlled test establishes it.
Check component locations, fulfillment and shipping zones
Open the exact component variant and compare its quantities by location. Confirm that the intended selling location can fulfil online orders and has a shipping rate for the test destination. If another location should not supply online orders, review that location's Shopify setting and any app-specific fulfilment configuration.
If the issue is regional, also confirm that the bundle and components are included in the shopper's market or catalog. The guide to inventory and stock by Shopify Market covers that broader setup.
Should an informational stock count be stored as Shopify inventory?
Not if it duplicates or summarizes stock that is already recorded elsewhere and is not independently sellable. Shopify inventory should represent real units at that location, with the correct Available, Committed and Unavailable states. Keep reporting-only totals in the operational system that owns them, or in clearly non-inventory data, so they cannot accidentally increase storefront availability.
How do you test a Shopify bundle for location-based overselling?
Use a development product or a low-risk period. Give one component different quantities at two locations and record the expected result before opening the storefront.
Run a controlled two-location stock test
- Set a known Available quantity at the location that should serve the shopper.
- Set a different quantity at a location that should not serve that destination.
- Confirm the bundle and required components are assigned to the intended locations.
- Open the bundle in the matching country or market context and compare the displayed result with your written expectation.
- Repeat with the second location made eligible, then document the changed result.
Check the storefront, checkout and component order lines
Do not stop at the product page. Add the bundle, proceed far enough through checkout to confirm delivery eligibility, and place a safe test order when appropriate. Verify that the order contains the expected component variants and quantities, then confirm which location Shopify routes them to. If the storefront number, checkout result and order routing disagree, capture the exact component, destination and location settings before contacting support.
For shared-stock behaviour across standalone and bundled sales, see Shopify bundle apps that automatically sync component inventory.
FAQ about Shopify bundle inventory by location
Can a Shopify bundle app use inventory from only one location?
It depends on the app and store configuration. Look for a documented single-location selector or location-scoping rule, then test it. Biscuits documents contextual availability and relevant bundle locations, but not an arbitrary selector that forces every calculation to one chosen warehouse.
Does disabling online fulfillment always fix bundle availability?
No. It changes whether Shopify can use that location for online fulfilment, but a third-party app might calculate or display inventory using different logic. Verify the result on the storefront and at checkout after changing the setting.
Should the bundle parent product track inventory?
For Biscuits, no. Inventory belongs to the selected component products, and the parent bundle is automatically set to not tracked. Keep the component records accurate instead of creating a separate parent quantity.
